Worship

We welcome you to join us!

Worship

Worship at Georgetown Lutheran Church welcomes, blends, and transcends diversities, backgrounds, and lifestyles and unites us in celebration, connects us in faith, and helps us grow in God’s grace. This is truly a time and place where God and people meet in a Spirit that nourishes grace, hospitality, faith, and commitment to the world which rests in God's loving hands.

Sunday Mornings

At Georgetown Lutheran Church, we gather for worship at 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The morning includes worship through music and hymns, prayer, teaching from the Bible, and the celebration of communion each Sunday.

Our 10 a.m. worship service typically lasts about an hour and includes special music from the choir and other musicians. On the other hand, the earlier gathering lasts approximately 30 minutes, includes a condensed liturgy, and is without music.

What to Expect

You can expect to be welcomed into a friendly, relaxed environment by people who are genuinely excited to see you. We have adopted a casual approach to dress for all our services and events and we invite you to wear whatever is the most comfortable for you. We welcome all ages to worship with us. A nursery room is available near the sanctuary and we also provide activity bags for children to use during worship services.

Ministries

At Georgetown Lutheran Church, we gather for worship, prayer, Bible study, fellowship, service, and learning. These ministries help us to grow in and through our connection with God and one another. We welcome you to join us in these ministries!

Children's Ministry

At Georgetown Lutheran Church, we strive to nurture the faith of children in environments where all of Gods children can meet and grow together. Children’s Sunday school classes meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month during the school year. Each session begins at 9 AM.

If you’d like to help with the younger members of our congregation, you’re invited to assist in teaching classes, lead arts and crafts projects, and/or help with music.

Adult Ministry

GLC’s adult Bible study group, Brown Bags & Bibles, meets at noon each Wednesday for a lively discussion. This group shares fellowship and personal experiences while drawing nearer to God by discovering new insights in the Bible. Everyone is welcome--men and women, Lutheran and not--don’t forget to bring a brown bag lunch with you to each session.

That’s not all--periodic, short-term, adult education classes on a variety of topics are held following worship services on Sunday mornings.

Altar Guild Ministry

Altar Guild members lovingly devote their time and talent to serving God in preparing our sanctuary for worship services. The Altar Guild arranges the flowers, banners, paraments, candles, and communion prepared for all.

Fellowship Ministry

Fellowship hour is a wonderful time to connect with fellow members of the congregation and meet visitors. Please join us in the Parish Hall after the 10 AM worship service each Sunday for coffee, snacks, and fellowship.

Music Ministry

Georgetown Lutheran’s music ministry and choir make beautiful music each and every Sunday. All voices are welcome and no experience is necessary. Practice is held in the sanctuary every Sunday at 9 AM (September through May). The choir sings at the 10 AM worship service. Regardless of whether you’re a GLC member or are new to GLC or just visiting, if you’d like to sing in the choir, please join us.

Campus Ministry

Georgetown Lutheran Church is an active partner in Commonplace, the Episcopal-Lutheran campus ministry at Georgetown University. Throughout the academic year, parishioners provide students with evening dinners, assist with vocational discernment, and collaborate via an alumni network. We are grateful to be a part of this growing Christian community of love and support.
